Shepard Fairey

Shepard Fairey is quite simply one of the most recognised names in contemporary art.

From his early work screenprinting his now legendary Andre The Giant, to his globally successful activism and culture clothing company Obey, to his iconic 2008 image of Barack Obama that aided the then Senator's ascension to the White House as a renowned and unforgettable era-defining image of Hope, Fairey is one of the millenniums most important names.

Now based in Los Angeles via South Carolina, the graphic design-led artist's first steps were an unusual introduction to art.

Humble beginnings drawing on skateboards in 1984 was the formative step before a teenage Fairey's part time job in a skateboarding shop in his hometown allowed him space to further develop his interest in the culture and character of street art and graffiti that he has come to be known for today.

In 1992, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Exhibited internationally and collected across the globe, we are delighted to have such an important collection of archive works from an inimitable artist.
